Job Description



Summary/Objective

A Journeyman is licensed as a Journeyman Electrician. Works under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent, and may oversee (depending on experience level) and direct the work of a crew of 1 to 5 helpers or apprentices in installations, alterations, additions, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any type project.


Essential Functions

  1. A Journeyman may be required to perform any of the duties and responsibilities associated with classifications E4, A8 and J1, J2 or J3.

  2. Lays out work and preps materials for installation.

  3. Does rigging and job set ups for all tasks performed or supervised.

  4. Performs underground layout and rough-in.

  5. Determines wire and conduit sizing.

  6. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using measuring devices, hand tools, threaders and hand or mechanical benders.

  7. Installs BUSS feeders.

  8. Performs switchgear installation and terminations.

  9. Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.

  10. Troubleshoots and resolves problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.

  11. Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.

  12. Understands and instructs assigned helpers in the safe operation of tools, use of equipment, electrical principles, and applicable codes.

  13. Performs other project related duties and assignments as instructed by supervisor.

  14. Meets attendance standards and complies with late/absence notification procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may have supervisory if Foreman or higher role is attained.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary, 40 hours per week, overtime may be required.

Job Sites can be located in multiple locations and out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
