Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Get to know the products and the store layout.
• Charge in a kind, patient and timely manner. Being efficient without losing the focus on customer service.
• Ensure that labeled products have the correct price and weight.
• Make the correct transactions, distinguishing between credit card, WIC, Lone Star and cash.
• Pay attention to detail in cash handling and ensuring that the paper bills are not fake.
• Bag and properly separate customer purchases.
• Ensure that the customer takes all their purchases before proceeding to the next transaction.
• Keep the work area clean and organized.
• Place all the merchandise that was returned or unwanted in the corresponding place.
• Maintain the right amount of products around the registers’ area to promote sales. (Medicine, shampoo and beverages, etc.).
• Gather and place adequate amounts of bags and paper rolls for the register, in the registers’ area.
• Leave the cash register ready for the next shift with bags, paper rolls and without trash.
• Promote the sale of additional products to increase average sales ticket.
• Follow the rules and laws governing the sale of tobacco and alcohol.
• Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Keep work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards.
• Report faulty equipment and hazards to management.
Job Requirements:
• Basic knowledge of mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
• Monetary knowledge: capacity to make change and give receipts.
• Conversational Spanish.
Desirable Requirements:
• Graduation from high school or GED.
• Read and speak Spanish and English fluently.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift 30 pounds.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to flex, kneel, bend and stoop.
